AMARILLO, TEXAS -- El Paso Natural Gas, the company that owns the gas pipeline that exploded in Bushland last month, released an update on the investigation into what caused that event today.

The statement said that the rupture was the result of an upward force on the branch connection that put pressure on a small area on the carrier pipe. That carrier pipe contained a lamination. It was the force on that lamination which caused a fracture to develop which led to the rupture. The company noted that there was no corrosion involved, no evidence of any defects in the weld between the connection and carrier pipe, and no evidence of a natural gas leak prior to the rupture.

The company is still working to determine what caused the upward force on the branch connection.
