ARDMORE, Okla. (AP) - Tuition and mandatory fees at the University of Oklahoma are going up by 4.5 percent for the upcoming school year.

OU regents voted to approve the increase Wednesday during a meeting at their annual retreat. The regents also approved OU President David Boren's $1.52 billion budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year.

Under the new rates, the average in-state undergraduate will pay $6,784 in tuition and mandatory fees for a standard course load of 30 credit hours over two semesters. That's about $291 more than during the 2009-10 school year.

Nonresident students will see their rates climb by about $741 to $17,215.

The last time OU officials raised tuition was during the 2008-09 school year, when the rate increased 9.9 percent.
