Hereford man arrested after chase with authorities

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A Hereford man is behind bars after taking part in a chase with a Highway Patrolman.

Around 10:40 on Friday night, a Highway Patrolman patrolling Deaf Smith County was working near the Randall County line on US 60, when he attempted to pull over a pickup for a traffic violation.

The vehicle didn't stop and a pursuit ensued. The pickup continued east on the highway into Randall County through the streets of Umbarger. The driver of the vehicle stopped and all 4 occupants ran from the pickup including the driver.

Anthony Mejia,28, was the only subject arrested at the scene.

The vehicle was a 2001 Chevrolet pickup that was stolen from Lubbock.

Mejia was booked into the Randall County jail for evading arrest a class A misdemeanor punishable by 1 year in jail, and a $4,000 fine. Mejia was not the driver of the vehicle.
