ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say two parents have been jailed for allegedly leaving their three young children in a camper while they jet skied in southern New Mexico last weekend.
Sierra County deputies say 21-year-old Destynie Defrates, of Mountainair, and 23-year-old Aaron Montoya, of Los Lunas, are facing child abuse charges.
Authorities say the couple's children - ages 1, 2 and 3 - allegedly were locked in the camper for about two hours Sunday in 98-degree heat without air conditioning or hydration.
Elephant Butte Lake Park rangers had to break into the trailer to rescue the children, who were taken to Sierra Vista Hospital as a precautionary measure. The children now are in state custody.
Authorities say Defrates and Montoya are jailed without bond and each are facing three counts of felony child abuse.
