AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Construction on the 3rd and Grand bridge begins Monday.
The bridge will help alleviate traffic congestion in that area due to frequent stops made by trains on the railroad tracks. Once construction is complete traffic will be able to go over the intersection, avoiding those long stops. But before that happens there will be lane closures for quite some time.
Beginning Tuesday, the northbound lanes on the east side of the road will be closed. Traffic will be one lane in each direction on the 2-west-side lanes from about a half mile north to a half mile south of 3rd.
These lane closures will be in effect until the project ends in March of 2012.
