AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo and Canyon ISD's released their 2010 Average Yearly Progress ratings.

Amarillo ISD campuses show 95 percent of the schools met the AYP federal standards.

Especially noteworthy is that Caprock and Palo Duro High Schools as well as Bowie Middle School have each met the AYP standards for two consecutive years. That means the schools will no longer fall into "school improvement" status.

The ratings come a week after the TEA released the state accountability ratings. And AISD achieved its first "recognized" rating since the beginning of the current accountability system, and the district also had a record number of campuses that were labeled as top performing.

According to AISD Superintendent Rod Schroder, more challenges are ahead for AISD. "Each year the AYP standards will continue to increase significantly, so we must keep raising the bar as well."

Canyon ISD also has more good news. All campuses met the AYP requirements. The District says its proud of its staff, teachers, and students for their outstanding work during the 2009-10 school year.
