AMARILLO, TEXAS -- An Amarillo man who was injured in a serious car wreck last week, has died as a result of those injuries. Last Thursday, Juan Navarrete, 42, pulled his suburban over to the right side median for a mechanical problem. Navarrete was looking under the hood when the suburban was hit in the rear by a Ford pickup. At that time, Navarrete was transported to a local hospital with life threatening conditions, and on Monday he was pronounced dead.
The wreck happened around 4:15 p.m., and caused the closure of I-40 west bound from Washington to Georgia, while emergency responders worked the wreck.
The driver of the Ford pickup, Rex Foster, 31, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Six other people who were in the suburban were sent to the hospital with various injuries.
The accident is still under investigation and a case will be presented to the Potter County grand jury.
