PERRYTON, TEXAS -- UPDATE: Margarita's Steakhouse in Perryton is helping to replace the toys that were stolen by holding a fundraiser on Saturday. Starting at 11:00 am through 6:00 pm, if you bring in a new toy you will get a free hamburger or cheeseburger. A cash donation box will also be set up at the restaurant.

Perryton Police Chief Tony Hill, said there is nothing new in the investigation at this point. Hill also said if you would like to make a donation you can call the police department at (806) 435-4002 and they will direct you to the right place.

They are very thankful to all of those who have and would like to donate.

Previous story: The Grinch broke in and stole Christmas from the children in Perryton, in the Texas Panhandle.

According to Perryton Police Chief Tony Hill, someone broke into a building at 509 SW 7th in Perryton late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. The thieves took a large amount of the toys and other items donated to the Toys For Tots program. Chief Hill said that over $1,500 dollars worth of batteries were taken, along with several toys and watches.

Hill said it's just terrible what happened and that he has two missions in this case. One, of course, is to solve the crime but the second is to make sure area kids who need it still have a Christmas. Hill is asking people to reach a little deeper in their pockets and hopes the citizens will step up and replace the toys and to help ensure a Christmas for all.

If you would like to donate an item, you can call the Perryton Police Department at 806-435-4002. If you have a tip on who might have taken the items, you are asked to call Perryton Crime Stoppers at 806-435-2583. If you live in Amarillo and would like to donate a toy to the program, you can drop them off at the KVII studios in downtown Amarillo, we will make sure they get placed in the right hands, in the Panhandle Spirit of course!
