Report: Sen. placed ejected grandson back in his seat after wreck
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A preliminary report detailing the crash that killed Brianna Gomez, near Channing on December 26, indicates that the Colorado legislator put her 3-year-old grandson back in his car seat after he was ejected from the vehicle.
The preliminary report released by the Department of Public Safety details the deadly crash, that involved Sen. Suzanne Williams of Aurora, Colorado. Her son and two grandsons survived the wreck. Williams, was driving and was the only one wearing a seatbelt.
Brianna Gomez of Amarillo was 7-months pregnant and died as a result of the wreck. Doctors performed an emergency cesarean section and saved her son, Curran Gomez. He is currently hospitalized in critical condition. Her husband, and two other children survived.
According to investigators the Williams SUV drifted into oncoming traffic. The Gomez family vehicle attempted to avoid the collision but the two vehicle were unable to avoid the crash.
No charges have been filed at this time.
