AMARILLO, TEXAS -- When it comes to Downtown Amarillo there has been a lot of changes over the past couple of years, and to continue growing and changing, the younger generation is being asked to contribute.
The Amarillo Young Professionals organization hosted a power lunch meeting in hopes of kicking off the new year with a great and influential start.
At their meeting they had another group join them, Downtown Amarillo Incorporated, to give them a heads up on what's new and upcoming.
One attendee told us younger folks are the talk of the town.
"Young professionals are the ones that usually utilize what's going on downtown or in any area of the city. We're the ones that go out there and are driving others to go out there," said Rachel Fewell, power lunch attendee.
Y.P. official, Zane Oliver, told us what the young and young at heart are looking for.
"For young people I think there's always a good mix of entertainment factors -- sporting events, conventions, concerts, things of that nature and we always have the week to week things such as eating and hanging out," said Oliver, Amarillo Young Professionals President.
Fewell said it's all about combining the new with the old.
"It's one of those things that if you can build something or create something for downtown and do it all as a group -- just like the fine arts building, it goes from young generation to an older generation -- we can all utilize that."
Oliver encourages people to join, voice their opinions, and throw out ideas to any of the groups around town.
Including Downtown Amarillo Inc., Amarillo Young Professionals, Center City, and even attending commission meetings.
