AMARILLO, TEXAS -- As expected, this winter storm didn't give us much snow, but it sure did give us a lot of wind and cold air!
As of 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, snow totals ranged from a wind-blown dusting to as much as 4 inches in Friona (generally 1 to 2 inches in the Amarillo metro area).
Temperatures continued to hang around the single digits throughout the morning with the northwestern parts of the High Plains dropping to as low as -4°.
We tied the record-cold high temperature here in Amarillo for the first day of February. The record we tied with 10° was set back in 1893 that was 118 years ago!!
Air temperatures were expected to drop below zero Tuesday night, making it the first time we dropped into the negatives since December 8th, 2005 when we dropped to -3°.
It's going to take several days to get rid of this Arctic air mass though. We should finally get back above the freezing mark by Friday afternoon.
