AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Laura W. Bush Institute, in the Texas Tech Amarillo complex, has launched a new life-saving campaign.
Its focus is to help women overcome certain barriers when it comes to breast cancer screenings and access to mammograms.
The institute will do that with the help of a three-year, 1.76 million dollar grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute Center.
The grant will allow them to perform free mammographies for women who otherwise would not be able to afford them.
"Now with this grant I can proudly tell a patient that wherever you belong we can take care of you, which was not possible before this funding," said Dr. Rakhshanda Rahman, Director of Breast Health.
The grant will pay for the screenings and for the diagnostic work-up if the results are abnormal.
