AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The American Red Cross in Amarillo is asking those who were evacuated due to the wildfires on Sunday to go to www.amarillo.redcross.org and register. There is a safe and well link, click on that to register to let them know you are safe and sound.

Help is needed as the American Red Cross says the situation is worse than they thought.

They are currently requesting donations of water, snacks (individual snacks) and money. Donations can be delivered to the Texas Panhandle Chapter at 1800 Harrison until late this evening and tomorrow. Also, you can take donations to West Amarillo Christian Church at 3701 Soncy. Clothing donations can be made to the Salvation Army and Downtown Women's Center.

"It's hard to tell at this point what kind of response is going to be required over the next few days, but immediately we are responding, we're containing wild fires and we're opening shelters. We need bottled water and individually wrapped snacks that's always helpful right now," said Susan Ginn, Texas Panhandle Red Cross Chapter.

For more information, call the Chapter at 376-6309 or visit their website. Donations can be made over the phone and online. Show your Panhandle Spirit and donate now!

The Red Cross also asks volunteers and board members to be prepared to assist.

Just yesterday, Red Cross chapters from throughout the State to prepare for disasters.

In Borger and Pampa. Broome Optical has set up a collection center for the American Red Cross. Toiletries, clothes and food items will be collected and delivered to the Red Cross.
