AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Congress recently passed a three week extension giving the House and Senate more time to come up with a budget for 2012.

The last time the nation experienced a government shutdown was in 1995 costing tax payers millions of dollars everyday until a budget agreement was made.

If both the House and Senate don't reach an agreement on the budget by early April we could possibly see another government shutdown, but who does that really affect?

"Only essential personnel and essential activities can continue. For example, most military folk are required to still be at their post, but they don't get paid -- they'd get reimbursed later but they would not get their pay check during that. A lot of government offices would simply be closed," said Representative Mac Thornberry, U.S. Congressman.

Representative Thornberry says his first priority would be to take military and national security off the table to make sure they are not part of the budget cuts.
