AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Black Friday is almost here, officially kicking off the holiday shopping season.

But some students are asking you to give in the holiday spirit.

You know the saying, it's always better to give than receive? Fellowship of Christian Athletes students at Highland Park are asking you to do just that, by helping their shoe drive for elementary students.

It's this week's Region 16 Spotlight Education report.

A closed toed shoe. It seems simple enough, but to a child in need, it could be the difference between frost bite or staying warm.

"A lot of children that are in our elementary schools don't have winter shoes. They'll ear flip flops to school or shoes that aren't really made for the winter season," said Marley Haynes, 11th Grader.

So during the season of giving, Highland Park's FCA students are asking you to help their "Shoes for Soul" Drive. To bring new or gently used children shoes to their school to help their elementary students.

"It takes just one person to get involved to see there's a problem for them to go and solve it," said Myles Smith, 11th Grader.

"To see them to just take the and get things going and just everybody working together and seeing the team work is just awesome to see it come together," said Todd Moore, FCA Leader.

So while you're out shopping on Black Friday, remember this.

"When you go Black Friday shopping don't just buy for yourself, buy for other people too because it is the season of giving," said Haynes.

If you want to give, you can bring those shoes to Highland Park's front office during regular business hours.

Again, keep in mind the shoes are for elementary aged students for sizes. The shoe drive ends December 19th.
