CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - The mayor of Clovis says the community needs more rental housing to accommodate Cannon Air Force Base while helping jump start the economy of eastern New Mexico.

Mayor Gayla Brumfield says a private Arizona developer has been working with the Federal Housing Administration to obtain financing for a proposed apartment complex in north Clovis.

The Clovis News Journal  reports that although financing hasn't been finalized Brumfield says she's optimistic the project will get off the ground.
