Amarillo high school students have raised more than $60,000 to help our community.

Non-profits in our area had the chance to send a grant proposal to the United Way Youth Cabinet, they could each ask for up to $5,000.

Friday, four cabinet members toured Family Support Services to see where some of the money should be allocated.

Family Support Services is asking for about $2,500 for new cribs, swings and a rocking chair for their child care center.

"We are asking for money to go towards our infant room," said Crystal Wynn, the Child Care Director at Family Support Services. "The licensing in the United States has changes the coding on the cribs and so we are having to purchase new cribs and its very expensive."

The Youth Cabinet will decide where all the money will go later this month.
