SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - State records the number of deaths from alcohol-related traffic crashes increased last year in New Mexico. Preliminary records of the Traffic Safety Bureau indicate 146 people were killed in highway crashes involving alcohol in 2011. That's up from 128 in 2010, but down from 152 in 2009. Gov. Susana Martinez and law enforcement officials will announce a new anti-drunk driving campaign today.
GALLUP, N.M. (AP) - Gallup police are investigating shootings that left three men wounded. The Albuquerque Journal reports that one of the victims walked into Gallup Indian Medical Center last night, saying he had been shot in the center's parking lot. A hospital spokeswoman said it was unclear if the shootings were related.
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Former State Investment Officer Gary Bland is suing for more than $1 million in damages over allegations that he was involved in a pay-to-play scheme to influence investments. Bland has filed suit against the State Investment Council, Gov. Susana Martinez, Attorney General Gary King and others.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Beginning next month, pharmacists and other practitioners who dispense controlled substances in New Mexico will have to report prescription and patient information much more frequently. The Albuquerque Journal reports that the state Board of Pharmacy believes that the new requirements that take effect in April will be a powerful tool in preventing substance abuse.
