Work on housing at Cannon AFB to start in July

CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - The developer charged with building nearly 700 new housing units at Cannon Air Force Base expects construction to begin in July.

Representatives with Atlanta-based Balfour Beatty met with about 80 contractors hoping to have a role in the job met with company officials in Clovis on Tuesday.

The Clovis News Journal reports (http://bit.ly/wMT5Sk ) that a Balfour Beatty executive said financing should be done by the end of May, and work could begin July 1 with a 42-month building period.

The company is overseeing a $470 million housing privatization project at Cannon and five other Air Force installations. It will build or renovate more than 4,700 new and renovated homes for military personnel at those locations.
