GOODWELL, TEXAS -- A Cactus man is now listed in stable condition after the semi he was driving was struck by a train near Goodwell.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) said 47-year-old Fidel Mendoza Holguin of Cactus was traveling southbound on a county road at about 1:45 Monday afternoon when he failed to observe the train. He was traveling on a road that was just north of the railroad tracks parallel to Highway 54.

The Union Pacific Railroad train then struck the 2004 Peterbuilt that Holguin was driving, OHP said. Holguin's semi, according to OHP, went off the right side of the road and rolled a quarter mile before coming to a rest.

Holgiun was first transported to Memorial Hospital of Texas County I Guymon before being transported to Amarillo. He was admitted with internal injuries.
