AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A woman was murdered by being stabbed early Thursday morning and police have now issued a warrant for the suspect.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jamario Deron Oliver, was transported to a local hospital because of an injury to his hands. He will be booked into the Potter County Jail when he is released.

Police were called to the 1600 block of NW 18th at about 3:45 a.m. on the report of a woman having trouble breathing. Officers were then advised the woman had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, police said they found Amanda Lynn Butler, 33, had been stabbed in the upper body. Police said it appeared she had been stabbed more than once.

Butler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers received additional information that a male suspect, Oliver, was several blocks away and he wanted to speak to police about stabbing his girlfriend.

Oliver was taken into custody at a location in the 1900 block of NW 20th.

An autopsy has been ordered by a Justice of the Peace.
