AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo police are searching for two suspects who they say are responsible for the overnight shooting death of a convenience store owner.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. Easter Sunday police said two black males entered La Esquina convenience store in the 1500 block of North Mirror. The men, according to police, appeared to be wearing dark clothing.

The store's owner, 47-year-old Adrian Chavez, and another person were in the front part of the store when the suspects entered, police said.

One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and pointed it at the other witness, according to police. The suspects then shot Chavez in his upper body, police said.

Chavez was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the suspects are still at large and were last seen running from the store northbound on North Mirror.

Anyone with any information on this shooting death is asked to call the Special Crimes Unit of the Amarillo Police Department at 378-9468.

An autopsy has been scheduled on Chavez.
