YMCA to celebrate Healthy Kids Day

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Summer is right around the corner and as kids start thinking summer activities, the YMCA wants to remind kids and parents how important it is to stay active - physically and mentally!

That's why April 28, Amarillo Family YMCA is celebrating Healthy Kids Day. More than 1,900 Y's across the county will take part in the celebration with children and families to help kick start physical activity and learning throughout the summer. Research shows that kids without access to both mental and physical activities are more prone to falling behind academically and gaining weight over the summer months.

"At Healthy Kids Day, we're helping parents take on summer by taking steps to ensure that their kids stay physically and intellectually active," said Cindy Platt, Health and Wellness Director, Amarillo Family YMCA. "With summer just around the corner, there is no better time than now to begin developing a healthy routine that helps kids be healthier and sharper for when the next school year begins."

You can get take part in Healthy Kids Day by visiting the South YMCA, 4101 Hillside, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on April 28. Kids and parents can participate in various activities like carnival games, bouncers, shooting hoops and obstacle courses. Amarillo Venom will even be there to lead a demonstration and interact with kids and their families.
