AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The City of Amarillo is conducting another public hearing on the issue of a ban on texting and/or cell phone use this Wednesday.

City officials said the purpose of the hearing, by the Traffic Commission, will be to hear comment and input from the general public about the issue.

The Traffic Commission has the power to make recommendations to the Amarillo City Commission on issues dealing with traffic safety.

Banning texting or cell phone use has been a controversial issue that has residents split. One side says what a person does in their own vehicles is their own business and the other side says it's a driving safety issue for all those on the road.

Amarillo residents are encouraged to attend the meeting on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., in the City Commission Chambers, located on the third floor of City Hall at 509 S.E. 7th Avenue.
