President Clinton speaking at West Texas A&M University
CANYON, TEXAS -- Thousands of students, faculty and community members welcomed former President Bill Clinton to the Panhandle Tuesday evening.
"I like the Texas Panhandle," he said toward the beginning of his speech. "I was thrilled to be invited."
The former President spoke to a jam-packed crowd about the Flight 93 National Memorial and his time after leaving office.
He said the people of the Texas Panhandle understand the tragedy of Flight 93 on September 11, 2001, because they understand the tragedy of the Alamo. He said residents understand because like the Battle of the Alamo, it was ordinary people taking control for the greater good of mankind.
West Texas A&M University hosted the former President as part of its Distinguished Lecture Series. WT donated $100,000 to the Flight 93 Memorial and Clinton agreed to speak on the campus.
Clinton said he had spoken at two other engagements during the day, one in Las Vegas and the other in El Paso.
