AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Amarillo community came out on Thursday to support a local family who lost their loved one to a rare form of cancer.

Madison Knebusch battled cancer for two years before she passed January 12, 2012.

She was a student at Tascosca High School and right across the street from the school is where the fundraiser was held.

The public enjoyed burgers, chips and drinks for $5.00. Many even buying t-shirts saying, "Madison's Mission Complete".

All money raised will go to the Knebusch family, who are still coping with losing their daughter to a rare cancer.

"They don't even know it was so rare, it's never been on the books. As a matter of fact, in one last selfless act when she passed away, by her choice, she donated her body to Texas Tech Health Science Center just so others wouldn't have to suffer from this horrible disease," said Suzanne Talley, Coffee Memorial Blood Center.

Talley and all the staff at Coffee Memorial Blood Center say they were close to Madison.

"People don't realize that cancer and blood and platelet donations are so closely connected, most cancer patients going through their chemo therapy it kills off the bad and the good. And so, they have to have blood and platelet transfusions to survive their treatment".

A fund has been set up at First United Bank under Madison's Mission if you would like to make a donation to help her family with medical expenses.

You can also buy a t-shirt for $10.00 by calling Suzanne Talley at 358-4563.
