Congress has been taking steps to cut down on the threat of cyber threats and attacks in this country.

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, sailed through the republican-controlled house Thursday night.

It encourages the federal government and private companies to share information about threats.

Panhandle Congressman Mac Thornberry, chairman of the House Cybersecurity Task Force, says the act closes the gap between where we were and where we need to be to be in order to battle online security threats.

"Those threats have been growing, they've been growing in number and been getting more sophisticated, but our laws and policies have not kept up, so the gap between the good guys and the bad guys has been growing and growing," said Congressman Thornberry.

Despite a White House veto threat, Thornberry says the bills passed with bipartisan approval and must be sent to the senate
