AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Thousands of students from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and New Mexico are part of the largest music festival of its kind at the Amarillo Civic Center for the Greater Southwest Music Festival.

Through this weekend, more than a 150 schools will compete there, and about 14,500 students will be represented in the categories of band, orchestra, choir, show choir, and jazz bands at this year's festival.

"We have 100 bands and orchestras and we have 71 choirs, and it's our 41st annual Greater Southwest festival, so we're very proud of that too," according to Executive Director, Kathy Fishburn.

The event goes on Friday and Saturday at the Civic Center -- and admission is free.
