Are you one of the one in four people that lie on their Facebook accounts?

According to a new survey by Consumer Reports, 25 percent of Facebook users said they falsified some of their information on their accounts. They did this, according to the survey, to protect their identity.

A similar survey conducted just two years ago showed that number significantly lower, at 10 percent.

Facebook has a real-name policy. The social media giant requires a real email address but users can lie on their accounts without being penalized.

Many times people have been known to create "fake" profiles under a different name. A lot of them do this to hide from their employers or potential job recruiters.

Another way people are lying on their profiles or Timelines is by listing a fake birthday. That's to foil potential identity thieves.

What about you?
Have you ever lied on your Facebook account?
