CANYON, TEXAS -- A former Canyon Independent School District tennis instructor is being charged with assault by contact to a student, authorities announced Tuesday afternoon.
Canyon Police said it was notified late last month of allegations of a school employee having an improper relationship with a student. Chief of Police Dale Davis said the employee was identified as a male 19-year-old tennis instructor.
Police said the victim was reported to be a 14-year-old student of the district. Investigation into the matter also led police to believe there may have been another victim, a 13-year-old female student.
Davis said an intense investigation did not find any evidence to "justify a charge of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student, a second degree felony."
Both the Randall County District Attorney's Office and the City of Canyon Municipal Court Prosecutor were consulted in regards with the charges, police said.
The investigation, according to police, concluded that two counts of Simple Assault by Contact would be filed on the 19-year-old. Both charges are Class C misdemeanors punishable by fines only up to $500 each.
No parties involved in the case will be identified, police said.
CISD officials said it was informed of the allegations on April 30. The district said the individual was temporarily employed with CISD for a short time, from March 9 until April 26.
