OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has signed a bill allowing residents with a permit to openly carry their firearms in most public places.

Fallin signed the bill Tuesday, despite concerns from opponents and some law enforcement officials who say the legislation could cause problems for police.

The bill allows residents who have obtained a permit to carry a concealed firearm to also carry the weapon openly. To obtain a license in Oklahoma, an applicant must be at least 21, complete a firearms training course and pay a fee. They also must submit a photograph and fingerprints and pass a criminal background check.

The measure allows businesses to prohibit the carrying of firearms on their premises and maintains an existing ban on guns in certain places, like public buildings and schools.
