AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The City of Amarillo is on a mission, and asking all citizens to abide by a new anti-graffiti ordinance.
Amarillo Mayor Paul Harpole has been working for almost a year on the anti-graffiti campaign.
And now, it is all starting to come together.
Close to sixty volunteers came out Saturday morning to help clean up graffiti around the city.
"We're very pleased with the turnout and all the support we've had," said Jarrett Atkinson, the city manager. "Most of the volunteers who came out today were young."
The volunteers hit five areas of town and helped businesses clean up their property.
This is all part of an ongoing effort to keep the city clean and get rid of the vandalism.
"Graffiti is vandalism. It's a crime," said Atkinson. "It's no different than putting propane on someone's car."
Atkinson is hoping that with the help of volunteers hopefully the vandalism will come to a stop.
