GLENWOOD, N.M. (AP) - The National Weather Service says air quality for northern New Mexico should be safe despite a growing 190-square-mile wildfire.
Meteorologist Christopher Luckett says people in Albuquerque and other cities north of Socorro spending Memorial Day outdoors should not encounter much haze.
He says a cold front has pushed a majority of smoke plumes from the Whitewater-Baldy Complex fire southward.
Luckett says air quality in southern New Mexico, however, may not be as good, depending on the city.
Fire crews say gusts of up to 15 mph are expected Monday in the area of the Gila National Forest where they are preparing containment lines.
The Whitewater-Baldy Complex fire has burned more than 122,000 acres and was about two miles away from the privately owned ghost town of Mogollon.
