AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The national group, the American Association of Community Colleges has released a new study that says its own members need to do more for today's students.

They stress the urgency is making sure classrooms aren't just full for the sake of admissions, but the end result of a good job become the primary goal.

That exact concept was put in place more than a year ago over at Amarillo College.

With an enrollment of more than 10,000 students, most who have gone back to continue their education to get better jobs, the shift from enrollment based to perfomance based was started a long time ago over at A.C. according to President Dr. Paul Matney.

"We're going to leave no stone unturned and we've been doing that all year long. We've been planning and we're going to see the needle move in a positive direction for a student's success. So, no, it's not revolutionay but it absolutely has become a critical priority."

The focus of the study is on accountability and getting people back into the workforce, and Dr. Matney says they've already started seeing a positive change for the better implmenting those standards last year.

"We have a husband and wife with 4 kids go back to school in nursing which is rigorous and they'll be graduating in the fall and they'll take the R-N licensure and they'll pass. And in a few weeks they'll a job and think what a game changer that is for that family that was living right at the poverty level."

And since the cost of community college classes are half to a third what regular classes go for... turning your graduation into a profession never had a better cost to job ratio.

"We've got a lot of students to take care of and we take that responsibility very seriously," added Dr. Matney
