SWISHER COUNTY, TEXAS -- A 42-year-old woman was killed Sunday morning when the vehicle she was in crashed on Interstate 27 near Tulia, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Rebecca Calderon Gomez, 42, was pronounced dead after being transported to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. She was a rear passenger in a 1996 Chevrolet pickup driving southbound on I-27 six miles north of Tulia.

According to DPS, the pickup, driven by 21-year-old Feliciana Maria Moreno, of Wichita, Kan. DPS said the vehicle veered onto the shoulder of the Interstate for an unknown reason.

Moreno, DPS said, then overcorrected which caused the vehicle to enter the median in a side skid. The vehicle overturned several times, ejecting the front and rear passengers, DPS said.

Both the driver and the front passenger were transported to the Swisher Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, DPS said. Additionally, DPS said an infant who was in the rear seat was uninjured in the crash. The infant was strapped in an infant car seat, DPS said.

DPS said none of the adult occupants of the vehicle were utilizing the seatbelts.
