LIPSCOMB COUNTY, TEXAS -- A 16-year-old boy was killed in a single vehicle rollover Sunday afternoon on the Old Darrouzett Highway, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said a 1988 Toyota 4-Runner, driven by 17-year-old Dillon L. Davis, was traveling eastbound at about 2:45 p.m., on the Old Darrouzett Highway approximately 300 yards east of County Road 10. The vehicle, according to DPS, was traveling at a high rate of speed when its tired left the roadway.

The driver then over corrected which caused the vehicle to roll at least one time, DPS said.

Both Davis and a passenger, 16-year-old Jordan Rodriguez, were ejected while the vehicle came to a rest on its top, DPS said.

According to DPS, the Rodriguez was found underneath the vehicle and was pronounced dead on scene.

Davis was thrown clear of wreckage and was airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, DPS said. He was released a short time later.

Neither occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts, DPS said.
