OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The National Weather Service says four high temperature records for July 21st were set and four others were tied in Oklahoma. Records set Saturday are 110 degrees at Tuskahoma, 109 at Watonga, 108 at Ralston and 107 at Altus. Today's forecast from the weather service calls for highs from the upper 90s to near 105 degrees through Thursday.
WYNNEWOOD, Okla. (AP) - A Wynnewood police officer suffered minor injuries and a Davis man is hospitalized in stable condition after the officer's patrol car collided with the man's vehicle in Wynnewood. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 48-year-old officer Keith Cornelius was treated and released at a Pauls Valley hospital while 38-year-old Boyd Ashley is hospitalized in Oklahoma City after the crash around 10 p.m. Saturday.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Governor Mary Fallin calls late state Senator Gene Stipe "a legend in Oklahoma politics." Fallin issued a statement yesterday following the Saturday death of the 85-year-old Stipe at his home in McAlester. Fallin said Stipe seemed to know all his constituents by name and offered her thoughts and prayers to his family.
TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma researchers working to develop a longer-lasting lithium ion battery say they can't fully describe what they're doing - but promise a "revolutionary" development. Frontier Electronic Systems Corporation engineers are working with researchers at the University of Tulsa on a new type of lithium ion battery that would have more juice to power devices ranging from mobile phones to automobiles.
