AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A Taylor's convenience store was robbed early Monday morning.

The suspect, according to police, fled the scene.

At about 4:40 a.m., police were called to the Taylor's in the 1600 block of Amarillo Boulevard East. A store clerk told police that a black male, about 5'8", weighing 200-210 pounds, walked into the store and demanded money from the register.

The suspect was wearing a blue hat and blue shorts. He did not threaten or brandish a weapon, police said.

The clerk told police the suspect claimed he didn't want to hurt anyone and that he only wanted the money.

He fled going southbound on Wilson with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

Investigation into this robbery is ongoing.
