ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Santa Fe lawyer Paul Mannick has withdrawn his application for an interim spot on the New Mexico state Supreme Court. A judicial nominating commission will evaluate the two remaining candidates -- former Supreme Court Justice Paul Kennedy and retired prosecutor Steven Suttle. The interim justice will serve only until a new justice is elected in November.
EL PASO, Texas (AP) - The Drug Enforcement Administration says 10 people have been arrested in New Mexico in a sweep of the makers and distributors of synthetic drugs known as "spice" or "bath salts." At a news conference in El Paso, the DEA said 36 search warrants were executed in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Roswell and Alamogordo.
SEDONA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities are working to identify the bodies of a man and two children pulled from the wreckage of a twin-engine plane registered to an Albuquerque man that crashed yesterday after taking off from Sedona, Ariz. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer says the plane went off the south end of the runway down a tree-covered slope and burst into flames.
BERNALILLO, N.M. (AP) - The Sandoval County Fire Department has named an interim chief to succeed Jon Tibbetts, who died in a car crash on Monday. James Maxon had been serving both as deputy fire chief and county fire marshal. KRQE-TV reports that authorities still are investigating the cause of the crash in Interstate 25 that killed Tibbetts.
