AMARILLO, TEXAS -- If you wanted Chick-Fil-A Wednesday... you probably had to take a number.
People across the nation packed Chick-Fil-A restaurants including all three locations in Amarillo -- 26th and Georgia, 45th and Coulter and inside Westgate Mall. Many showed up in support of Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day. However, nationwide, the restaurant has received criticism from gay rights groups after President of Chick-Fil-A, Dan Cathy, publicly announced backing the "biblical definition of a family". Those groups called for protestors to also visit Chick-Fil-A on Wednesday, but not to eat -- to protest.
Witnesses at various Chick-Fil-A locations in Amarillo on Wednesday reported extremely long lines, drive-thru lines circling the building several times, and even adjacent parking lots filling up with people eager to either get in on the Chick-Fil-A controversy or just get their hands on a good ol' chicken sandwich and some waffle fries.
