OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Temperatures records have once again been broken in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The National Weather Service reported that yesterday was the second day in a row that Oklahoma City and Tulsa reached new high temperature marks. Weather service tables indicated the temperature also peaked at 112 degrees in Tulsa, breaking last year's record of 110 degrees.
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say a grass fire that destroyed two mobile homes in Stillwater has been extinguished. Fire Marshal Trent Hawkins says firefighters put out the blaze late yesterday. Hawkins says at least 200 acres burned before crews from Stillwater, several neighboring departments and an Oklahoma National Guard helicopter got control of the blaze.
MORRIS, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say an Okmulgee County Sheriff's deputy has fatally shot a man who approached him and another deputy with a machete. The sheriff's office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation say the deputies were responding to a welfare check request at a residence near Morris about 9:25 a.m. yesterday when they encountered the man outside with the machete. One of the officers shot 51-year-old Robert McMurtry, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
EDMOND, Okla. (AP) - Police have identified two people who were burned when a methamphetamine lab exploded inside a recreational vehicle at an Edmond lake. Officials say 35-year-old Mounds resident Christina Martin and 43-year-old Owen Dandridge of Kellyville were burned in the Monday night blast. Firefighters who responded to Scissortail Park at Arcadia Lake found a working meth lab in woods behind the vehicle.
