BORGER, Texas (AP) - A man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing his 97-year-old neighbor. Forty-eight-year-old Gregorio Felan pleaded guilty yesterday to capital murder in the April 2011 death of Lois Kimbrell. Prosecutor Mark Snider says "we'll probably never know" Felan's motive for the crime.
FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - Another pretrial hearing is set in the case of an Army psychiatrist charged in the deadly 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage. Major NIdal Hasan will be in court today only if he shaved his beard. Last week, the judge said Hasan would be forcibly shaved sometime before his August 20th military trial if he didn't shave on his own.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The state comptroller's office is set to give budget leaders an update on Texas' financial health. Associate Deputy Comptroller Mike Reissig is scheduled today to testify before the Legislative Budget Board. Reissig is expected to give the board revenue estimates for the current fiscal year.
BIG LAKE, Texas (AP) - A 17-hour standoff between police and a man suspected of killing a West Texas deputy ended with the alleged gunman's capture. Authorities say 42-year-old Marcus Madison emerged from a house in Big Lake yesterday morning with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face. Officials say the man barricaded himself in the house after Deputy Josh Mitchell was killed.
