ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico is receiving more than $7.4 million in federal funds to reduce congestion and improve safety along the state's roadways
The grants come from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The Jicarilla Apache Nation in northern New Mexico will get the largest share of the funds with $3 million. The project includes reconstructing parts of NM 537 to accommodate heavier truck loads for oil and gas development, and widening travel lanes and shoulders to improve sight distance.
The smallest amount - $19,200 - is for developing a plan to restore a segment of Historic Route 66 in Los Lunas.
Several other projects are planned around New Mexico using the funds.
