DALLAS (AP) - Police Chief David Brown has announced a series of policy changes, including a formalized foot-pursuit policy and mandatory training of all officers in the use of Tasers. Today's announcement comes after several police-involved shootings. The latest was a drug suspect during a foot pursuit last month that led to a tension between officers and residents of the neighborhood where the shooting occurred.
DALLAS (AP) - The Dallas online fashion editor who lost her left hand and eye when she walked into the propeller of a small plane says she's no longer hurting. In an interview aired yesterday on NBC's "Today" show, 24-year-old Lauren Scruggs says some days are hard emotionally but spiritually, she has "learned to live by faith and not by sight."
CONROE, Texas (AP) - A multi-agency task force has removed more than 30,000 marijuana plants growing along a creek bank in the remote woods of Southeast Texas and is in the process of destroying them. Polk County Sherriff Kenneth Hammack said yesterday that there were so many plants it took about 100 people from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies six hours to pull them by hand.
HOUSTON (AP) - The number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. rose by one this week to 1,931. Houston-based oilfield services company Baker Hughes Incorporated reported today that Texas added two rigs and Arkansas brought one online.
