After killing nine people, the West Nile virus has caused officials at Dallas County Texas to issue a public health emergency.
For those neighborhoods hit hardest, insecticide spraying by planes is an option, but only if the local governments request it.
"The insecticide is safe," said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, "the planes are quite sophisticated, and they get the spray to where it needs to go."
According to CNN, the US is experiencing it's largest spike in West Nile virus since 2004, with 241 cases nationwide this year.
Although 42 states have reported West Nile infections, 80% of cases have been in Texas, Oklahoma, and Mississippi.
