COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - A funeral will be held Saturday at Texas A and M University for a Brazos County Constable gunned down while serving an eviction notice. Viewing for Brian Bachmann has been scheduled Friday evening at Christ United Methodist Church in College Station. Bachmann's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday inside Reed Arena, which has a total seating capacity of 12,500.
DALLAS (AP) - A federal bankruptcy judge is blocking American Airlines from temporarily setting pay and contract rules for its pilots. The judge ruled today that the Fort Worth-based company could not reject a contract it negotiated in 2003 and impose its own terms on pilots. American wanted to cancel the contract to cut costs as it rebuilds in bankruptcy protection. The ruling means that American and the Allied Pilots Association will likely resume negotiations this week.
DALLAS (AP) - A former Tenet Healthcare vice president has been named interim chief executive officer of embattled Parkland Memorial Hospital. The Dallas public hospital's governing board voted today to have Robert L. Smith of Plano replace Doctor Thomas Royer, effective in mid-September. Royer's contract expires at the end of August.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A district court judge has set bond at $1 million cash for a Houston man accused of setting a fire that destroyed the Lone Steer Motel in Steele, North Dakota. Fifty-year-old Allen Thomas appeared today via interactive television from the McLean County Courthouse. The hearing was held at the Burleigh County Courthouse.
