AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A local hero, firefighter and paramedic, Jody Baker lost his life while on duty Christmas Day last year. Family and friends have been doing their best to cope with their loss.

Not long after his death a committee formed in hopes of raising money for his family. Chaplain of the Randall County Fire Department said, “He left behind a wife and two young kids Hunter, 6, and Lauren age 3, and we thought it would be nice to do a fundraiser to help them with their college education and whatever needs they’re going to have because he’s not going to be able to do that anymore.”

Firefighters of the Panhandle area and local musicians hosted, “A Tribute To The Life Of Jody Baker,” at the Amarillo globe news center for Jody’s wife and two children.

The evening consisted of a silent auction and live music with performances by Anderson, Insufficient Funds, Bob Hopkins Trio and much more. Committee member, Stacy Grant said, “He spent many years in the EMS and the Fire Rescue Community and he touched a lot of lives and his loss on Christmas day was just a huge loss to the EMS and Fire Rescue Community and so we all wanted to come together and do something to help his family and his children for their future to make sure that their future is bright.”

The Baker family has been working hard to stay strong and say that the most important thing is that Jody’s memory will never be forgotten. “You know, I don’t think that the money is as big of a deal as just paying tribute to Jody and you know, we sure appreciate everybody wanting to come out and honor him in that way,” said Jody’s Brother,  Jeremy Baker.

There were over fifteen bands that contributed and nearly forty companies donated items toward the silent auction. To make a donation for the Baker family contact the Randall County or Pantex Fire Departments.
