AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Law enforcement officers from all over the state have spent the last two days at T-Miller Wrecker learning to use new equipment that reads data from wrecked vehicles.
The devices connect to car modules, which control certain functions within the vehicles. The purpose of the equipment is to aid law enforcement in reconstructing traffic accidents and determining if wrecks are criminal or non-criminal. Officers and civilians who do reconstructive work on vehicles spent Tuesday going over the software and the installation process. Wednesday was spent setting up the equipment on wrecked vehicles.
As of 2014, every auto manufacturer will be required to release third-party software to have access to crash data modules.
