DALLAS (AP) - The American Red Cross has opened a command center in Dallas and is getting volunteers ready in case shelters are opened in East Texas to house people moved out of the path of Tropical Storm Isaac. The storm headed toward the Gulf Coast could strengthen into a hurricane.
DALLAS (AP) - At least 20 people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area have died from West Nile virus. Dallas County officials said today that a 12th person in the county has died from the virus spread by mosquitoes. Ground spraying is scheduled to continue tonight in parts of Dallas.
BISHOP, Texas (AP) - A South Texas man accused of fatally shooting two men and wounding a third man remains jailed without bond. Authorities say Noe Salinas of Bishop opened fire yesterday when the men confronted him after Salinas allegedly disciplined the daughter of one of the men.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Brazos County authorities say a man who was accidentally shot by his wife should be OK. They say the woman was aiming at a skunk last night when a bullet ricocheted and struck her husband. It happened at a house near College Station.
