SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The state Supreme Court has overturned one of two murder convictions of a Hobbs man who is serving life in prison for the deaths of two women in separate crimes. The justices last week ruled that a district court judge presiding in Paul Lovett's trial erred in holding one trial for both murders and it was prejudicial to Lovett in one of the cases.

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Three more New Mexicans have been diagnosed with West Nile virus infection, bringing the total in the state this year to eight human cases. No deaths have been reported so far. State health officials say two of the cases are in Bernalillo County and the third is in Dona Ana County.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico Tech has been awarded more than $1 million to boost the number of science, technology, engineering and math degrees offered at colleges that serve northern New Mexico. The money comes from the National Science Foundation. The grant will help improve students' ability to transfer credits, increase graduation rates and provide more research opportunities.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The NCAA has declared two New Mexico football players ineligible for several games at the start of the season. The university says it self-reported impermissible benefit violations to the NCAA concerning senior defensive linemen Rod Davis and Fatu Ulale. The NCAA declared Ulale ineligible for the first four games of this season and Davis the first two games.
